MagSafe Phone Cases: Compatibility and Charging Explained
Share
Updated 21 September 2026. A MagSafe phone case should fit your exact phone and work with the accessories you use. Magnetic attachment, wireless charging and charging speed are related, but they are not the same promise. A magnet ring alone does not upgrade a phone’s charging hardware.
This guide explains how to check the combination before ordering a custom case. For RPX customs availability, use the current iPhone case selector or Samsung Galaxy case selector.
What does MagSafe do?
On supported iPhones, MagSafe provides magnetic alignment for compatible chargers and accessories. A suitable case can help an accessory line up and attach through the case. The complete result depends on the phone, case and accessory, including the position of the magnetic ring.
Do not assume every iPhone released after iPhone 12 has built-in MagSafe. Apple identifies iPhone 16e, for example, as a non-MagSafe, Qi-compatible device. Check your full model name rather than relying on its release year.
How fast can it charge?
Apple lists up to 25W peak wireless charging for certain supported phone, MagSafe Charger and power-adapter combinations. Other combinations have lower limits. Actual power also depends on temperature and operating conditions. See Apple’s current MagSafe charging guidance for your hardware.
These are Apple hardware specifications, not a guarantee that an RPX customs case will achieve a particular wattage. Neither “N52 magnets” nor “MagSafe-compatible” alone proves a measured charging speed, Qi2 certification or Apple certification.
How a phone case affects accessories
- Fit: a case for a similarly named phone can have the wrong camera opening or dimensions.
- Alignment: the accessory needs to line up with the phone’s charging area.
- Clearance: a raised camera surround may affect how a large wallet, stand or battery pack sits.
- Construction: extra layers, inserts or unsuitable metal plates can interfere with a charging setup.
- Hold: attachment depends on both the case and accessory, not only the magnet grade.
There is no universal case-thickness cutoff that guarantees success with every charger. A slim case without its own magnet ring is not equivalent to a tested magnetic-accessory combination. Check the accessory maker’s compatibility information.
RPX customs custom iPhone cases
The Signature custom case uses a TPU bumper and rigid UV-printed back panel, with a stated 2.8 mm construction. Its supported iPhone versions are described with built-in N52 magnets for compatible magnetic accessories.
Choose the exact available model first. Then upload your own image, use the available AI tools, or browse RPX customs Originals. A custom print changes the appearance; it does not change the phone’s charging specification. Ask support about your exact phone and accessory if compatibility is critical.
Samsung Galaxy, Qi and Qi2: check the combination
Do not treat the iPhone MagSafe description as confirmation of every Samsung case feature. RPX customs’ Samsung collection states Qi wireless-charging compatibility for its listed models. Confirm magnetic attachment separately for your exact case and accessory before purchase.
Adding a ring to a case does not by itself establish Qi2 certification or a higher charging speed. Use the phone manufacturer’s and accessory manufacturer’s specifications for the exact products. We do not promise that every Samsung case works with every MagSafe wallet, mount or battery pack.
Cards, keys and safe charging
Do not place credit cards, security badges, passports or key fobs between the phone and a MagSafe Charger. Apple warns that this can damage magnetic strips or RFID chips. Remove sensitive items from the charging area and follow the charger’s instructions.
Keep the phone and charger correctly aligned. If the phone becomes unusually warm or repeatedly disconnects, stop and check the setup. Avoid unsupported inserts or metal mounting plates, and use a suitable power adapter.
Before ordering your custom MagSafe case
- Find the exact phone model in its settings.
- Check that RPX customs currently lists that model.
- Confirm the specific charger, wallet or mount you plan to use.
- Design the case and inspect the image around the camera opening.
- Review your chosen offer, final model and return conditions before checkout.
Frequently asked questions
Does a magnetic case make any phone MagSafe?
No. It can provide attachment, but it does not add missing charging electronics or guarantee a particular charging protocol.
Does printing prove accessory compatibility?
No. Evaluate the complete case and accessory. Artwork and hardware performance are separate questions.
Where can I check case materials?
