A Personalised Phone Case Gift: Check These Details First

A personalised phone case gift works best when you get two things right: it fits the recipient's exact phone, and it carries a picture they would actually choose to show. A favourite memory is a good starting point, but the camera opening, image crop and their everyday style matter too.

Before you start designing, collect the full phone model, a suitable original image and a rough idea of their preferences. This checklist helps you turn those details into a thoughtful photo case without guessing specifications or relying on an old delivery estimate.

1. Confirm the phone, not just the brand

“An iPhone” or “a Galaxy” is not enough to choose a case. Even within one generation, standard, Plus, Pro, Pro Max and Ultra versions can require different cases. Do not pick the closest-looking option if their exact model is missing.

For an iPhone, ask the owner to check Settings → General → About and confirm the model. Apple's model-number guide explains where to find the identifying information. On a Galaxy, use Settings → About phone; see Samsung's instructions. Menu wording can vary. You only need the model information to choose a case, not their IMEI, serial number or account details.

If you want to keep the gift a surprise, ask someone who can confirm the model with the recipient's permission. Avoid trying to identify it from a distant photograph or asking for a screenshot full of private device information. A direct question is better than a beautifully printed case that does not fit.

Then check the live iPhone case selector or Samsung Galaxy case selector. Select the complete model name. At RPX customs, that model-specific link carries the choice into the customizer.

2. Choose a memory they want to carry

A case is visible in meetings, on public transport and when someone puts their phone on a table. Choose for the person receiving it, not only for the person giving it. A private joke can be a lovely memory without being the right everyday print.

  • For a partner or close friend: a shared place or a relaxed photograph can feel personal without needing a long message.
  • For a pet owner: look for a clear face and enough background around the ears. A tight crop may be difficult to place.
  • For a car enthusiast: use an authorised photograph of their own car, with room around the vehicle. Check whether they would prefer the full scene or one detail.
  • For someone who prefers understated designs: consider your own simple artwork or a photograph with a calm background rather than a crowded collage.

Only use an image you own or have permission to reproduce, including the appropriate permission from people pictured. Do not assume an image found online or a game logo is available for printing.

For a straightforward photo gift, choose the regular photo-upload route: it uses the image you supply. AI portrait tools reinterpret a photograph, while Outfit Match uses clothing as inspiration for new artwork. They are different creative choices, not automatic improvements to a treasured photo. You can read about matching a case to an outfit if that better suits the recipient.

3. Test the picture against the camera opening

A phone case is tall and narrow, and part of its upper area is occupied by the camera. A photo that works as a landscape print may lose important details when it fills the case. Check the preview for the selected model rather than approving the picture in isolation.

Example: imagine two people standing at opposite ends of a wide beach photograph. Enlarging it to fill a case could cut one person out. A second photograph where they stand closer together may work better. If you keep the original, adjust the composition and check every edge; do not assume the editor can preserve everything while also filling the whole printable area.

For a pet portrait, move the eyes and ears clear of the camera opening. For a car photograph, check the roofline, front wheel and any detail that makes the image meaningful. Small writing deserves a separate check: a sentence that looks readable while zoomed in may be awkward on a case.

Start with the original image file where possible. Inspect it for blur and compression before uploading. More zoom does not restore missing detail, and the screen preview is not an exact colour proof. Our step-by-step design guide covers the ordering workflow.

4. Check their everyday accessories and preferences

Personalisation changes the appearance; it does not prove that a case will work with every charger, wallet, mount or screen protector. If the recipient relies on a particular accessory, confirm the exact phone–case–accessory combination before ordering. Do not infer charging speed from a magnetic ring.

Also separate the artwork from the shell. Look at the current product description and close-up views for the model you are buying. Our materials guide explains the terms without treating one material as universally best.

If you cannot establish the model or a necessary accessory requirement, pause the purchase. You can still share the design idea and choose the final case together. This is a planning suggestion, not a promise of a gift-card or delayed-selection service.

5. Use this gift-order checklist

Copy these questions into your own notes. Keep personal photos and device details private rather than posting your completed checklist publicly.

Check Ready when…
Exact fit The full model name is confirmed and appears in the live selector.
Recipient's taste The subject and colours suit what they like to carry every day.
Photo permission You are allowed to use the image and the people pictured are comfortable with the gift.
Camera and edges Faces, lettering and important details remain inside the printable preview.
Accessories Any essential charger, wallet or mount combination has been checked.
Order details The selected model, design, included items and final total are correct.
Timing You have checked current delivery information for the destination, not an old screenshot.

For a birthday or Christmas gift, read the current shipping and payment information before choosing an arrival date to rely on. This article does not establish a seasonal order cutoff, express service or guaranteed arrival. Check the return conditions too; do not assume a wrong model can always be exchanged on the terms you expect.

Ready to turn the idea into a case?

Start with the right fit, then the image. Choose the recipient's iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, add your photo and review the actual model preview. Read the applicable photo processing terms before sending an image. A final check of the full model name and camera crop is a small step that makes the gift far more considered.
